Happy Belated Purrthday to Carbon!

Carbon writes:

Don't worry, my purrthday wasn't forgotten!  Yesterday was just an extremely busy day around our house, with appointments for the humans and kitten-watching for us.  I had a good purrthday, though!  It was very relaxing, as you can tell from the above picture, MOL.  I snuggled with Daddy and later with Mommy, taught Bunny that the food plate is mine with a whap to the head (gently), and ran around playing with all kinds of toys that Mama Shawnee had taken out for us.  I even played Crazy Circle!

I turned 11 years old yesterday!  Yes, I'm a grouchy old man, but I can still tear up the house like a kitten when I want to, including going after a bouncy ball set loose in the kitchen!  The kittens were afraid of it, but I taught them how to whap it down mid-bounce.

Sockies!

http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/
I love when Mommy Erin pets me.

What?  Wait!  Where do you think you're going with MY sockie?

You'd BETTER be giving that back!
Freya writes:

Yep, I'm Freya, and I'm a proud sock-a-holic!  EVERY fuzzy sockie (and some that aren't so fuzzy) in this house is MINE!  I let my brother borrow them sometimes, but they belong to ME!  In the pictures above, Mommy Erin discovered that I'd brought my sockie up with me onto the bed while she was tucking JJ in for night-night time.  These were from a few years ago; he's now 7 years old.  Anyway, I was on my sockie, trying to hide it but wanting her to play with me with it.  She got it and we had a great game of tug-of-war!  As you can see, JJ thoroughly enjoyed it, too!

That's my second-favorite sockie.  I have two of them, both the same.  Sockies come two at a time from the store, you know, because humans have two feet that they wear sockies on.  They don't wear sockies on their hands.  If there were fuzzy sockies specifically for kitties, they would come four at a time, but they wouldn't be as big.  Anyway, my favorite sockie of all time is bright pink and has a kitty face and ears on it!  The eyes, nose, and mouth are embroidered on, but the ears are actually little extra pieces of the same fuzzy cloth and are sewn on, then embroidered with detail!  I love it so much!  I talk to it, like my friend Cory does to her sockie babies, and carry it down the hallway.  I throw it for myself and jump to catch it!  My brother tries to take it away from me, just because he thinks he can, but I run with it down the hall and away from him.  Of course, I do that will all my other fuzzies, too, but especially with my favorite!

What's your favorite toy?

PhotoHunt: Planter

Freya writes:

Daddy says that his shoes are not a toy planter, but we think they make a good one!  He always has to check them before he puts them on to make sure that our springs, yarn toys, or mousies aren't hiding in them.  One time, Heimdall even tried to plant his head in one and walked away with it on his head!

Are you a photohunter?

Starla's SUNday!

Starla writes:

I know you don't hear from me as much as from the others, but you will be hearing me meow more now!  About three weeks ago, Mommy and Daddy made a major change happen in my life.  As long as they've known me, I've been a scaredy-kitty of the others and of changes.  I was worried when my purrents said something new was going to happen, but it turned out to be a very good thing!

They put me in the carrier and took me to the vet.  I meowed the whole way there, crying to get out, but when we got there all I wanted to do was stay in the carrier and be by my purrents.  I was a very good girl when I got my temperature taken, but Mommy had warned me about that so I was kind of ready for it.  I didn't like being made to stand on the scale, but got through that ok.

The doctor tried to take a pee sample, but I wouldn't cooperate.  He looked at the spots where I've been licking myself bald on my tummy and legs.  He wanted to get a pee sample to once again rule out any stones or infection, but Daddy was firm with him that I wasn't physically sick and tests had already been done by our other vet.  The doctor looked at my chart and agreed to give them some anti-anxiety medicine for me.

Ick!  Medicine!  I have to get rolled up in a blankie and sat on a lap like a human baby to take it, then Mommy pries open my mouth and makes me swallow the pill.  Sometimes I play hide-and-seek with it in my teeth and cheek, but she finds it and gives it to me again.  The first couple weeks, Daddy held me while Mommy gave the meds, but now I let Mommy do it all by herself.  I even came over one time to let her know that it was time for her to give it to me!

They're hoping that, eventually, I'll be as good about taking my medicine as Uncle Skylar was with taking his.  I don't know about that, because he was extremely good about his!  He let them know it was time, sat down, and did everything he was supposed to except open his mouth!

My meds are really helping me, though!  That's why today's a SUNday!  Sunny attitude, sunny day outside!  I love being this happy!  I can play without worrying that someone's going to jump me for the toy.  I can use the box or my pee pad without worrying who else has used the box recently.  I ask for more attention from my purrents and from others who visit.  I even talk to my toys as I carry them!  A few days ago, Mommy heard me talking from down the hall, and knew I was holding something in my mouth because I was muffled.  Sure enough, I came walking to her, talking all the way, with the fuzzy Christmas cape in my mouth and dangling it like a kitten!  Freya and I have an understanding about the fuzzies now, the fleece things in the house that used to belong only to her.  They are shared between us now.  Rori and I share possesion of the catnip pillow.  We trade off.  I carry that around, too!

Looking forward to more happy days!

Torbie Thursday: Miss Marble's Weather Report

Miss Marble writes:

This picture that Mommy took is what my world looked like the past three days!  It's now back to normal:  wet, cold, and windy.  This white stuff is called "snow", and it sticks to my fur!  It's very cold and wet, and turns to water when I lick it.  I can't walk anywhere when it snows, but I can pounce in it.  It's hard to catch mice in snow, I found out yesterday.  I pounced from the deck onto a mouse, but then it slipped from under my paws.  I'd bitten it, so it couldn't get far, but after I got it again I looked at my sister and at Mommy (who was watching from the door), asking for explanations on why my mouse almost got away!  My sister was as confused as I was, and Mommy was laughing!  My sister and I ignored Mommy and went under the deck to eat my mouse.

I've been coming inside more and more, now that it's been snowing.  There is a lot of new stuff inside!  There are things called toys!  I like rolling toys, I've discovered, because my auntie Freya keeps rolling them to me to play with after she demonstrates how they work.  I like a ball that used to flash, so the humans keep that by the door for me.  Auntie Freya gave me one of her special toys, which she calls a roller!  Actually gave me it!  It's the core of a roll of doggie poop bags, but she loves to play with the roller (the core), and now so do I!  Auntie Freya brought it out to show me, then pawed it around in the dining room so I could see how it works.  Then she pawed it to me!  I wasn't quite sure if it was ok for me to play with it, so I looked at her, then at the roller, then at Mommy.  Mommy hit the roller with her shoe, and then I batted it with my paw.  Fun!  I batted it even more, then picked it up in my mouth and carried it a little closer to the door.  I batted it some more, then picked it up in my mouth again, inching it even closer.  Mommy opened the door and I took my special toy out into my world!  My first favorite toy, besides natural things!  I've played with grasses, rope, and other outside things, but this is my special, inside toy that my auntie gave me!

There is something called a heat vent inside, just on the other side of the door, that keeps the house warm.  I like to stand by it and play with the blinds as they move in the wind.  Striped Girl and I have learned that the spot outside across the door from the vent is the warmest spot to stand, but now I know why!  I still get a bit nervous when the heat starts up, because it makes a whooshing noise, but then I like to play with the blinds as they move.

Daddy has been shutting the door when I come inside, to keep the warm air in.  Mommy has, too, but Daddy makes a game out of it.  I come inside, the door shuts, then I paw at it and wiggle.  The door opens and I bat at the track and at the door.  I go outside, come back in, and the game starts all over again!  I get so into the game that I sometimes forget that I'm not supposed to bite the humans.  They understand, though.  When that happens, they tell me it's time for me to be outside for a while to calm down.  I get to come inside again later, though!  I'm even beginning to purr out loud when I'm petted inside.

The kittens are 6 months old today!!! Party time, and you're invited!!!

We're 6 months old today!!!  We'd love you to help us celebrate!
Heimdall's bringing his favorite new toy to the party!

He also really likes this one, can you tell?

Freya:  Hey, I was playing with this, brother!

I'd better stick it in Daddy's shoe so my brother won't take off with it.

But, now, on with our party!  Join in using the comments if you'd like to come celebrate with us!

We even brought plenty of nip for everyone!  ;)

My new toy

Rori writes:

I have a new toy! I'll give clues, and see if you can guess what it is.
  1. Mommy thinks it belongs to her.
  2. It's big and puffy.
  3. It is big enough so that all of us could nap on it if we want.
  4. I think it's a blankie, but Mommy says it's not.
  5. It has silver dangly toys on it that I can bite.
  6. Mommy brings it with her when she goes to teach.
  7. It goes "sssssshhhhhhhh" when I pounce on it.
Do you know what it is? Leave your guess in the comments and I'll tell if someone gets it right.

Almost-Wordless Wednesday

This Scandinavian-style kitchen witch (good luck "charm" for cooking) hangs over the sink at our house. Carbon spends time staring at it from the floor or from the sink counter, trying to figure out how to get to it. A couple times, he's leapt up and missed, landing in the sink, but he has yet to actually get it.

A new puffy? *hopeful eyes looking up at Mommy and Daddy hopefully*

Carbon & Rori:
Please, please? Can we have a new puffy? A new sparkle ball?

Rori:
Carbon really didn't mean to throw our red one in the litter box yesterday!

Carbon:
Honestly! I just was playing baseball with it and didn't catch it! I really didn't mean for it to land in there!

Carbon & Rori:
We're very sad you had to throw it away. So please may we have another one to play with?

Daddy:
Yes, we'll get you another one.

Carbon & Rori:
Yay! *dash around the house chasing each other and Tabby joins in the fun after a minute, while Skylar and Starla watch*

Monday Movie

Today's Monday Movie is the neighbor kitty SpongeBob inside our house playing with a catnip teabag from Jake & Micah's. We found them on the Catster Marketplace, which we're part of too. The CM is a great place to shop, because everything's cat-related: either for cats or has cats on it. This toy is one of our favorites, and you can see it's his favorite toy as well!
