*YAWNS* Pardon me while I eat my breakfast. I guess I slept through yesterday, because we got our Christmas present and I was too busy trying it out! Rori and Dare love it, too, and everyone else was exploring it while Daddy was putting it together. He bought it especially for me! *smiles*
I was scared when I was hiding in Mommy's teaching shelf, because Panther would come and get me. I pooped in the shelf! It's now in another room, but I needed a hiding spot. Daddy looked online and ordered this kitty tree! I've never had a kitty tree before, and I didn't even know what it was for a while. I thought it was interesting, but it smelled funny. After a while, the smell went away almost completely. That's when I took a chance and explored it when everyone else was sleeping.
This is my hidey-hole! This is why Daddy bought it for me! I can look out of here and hiss at Panther when he comes in the room, and he can't get me! Well, he could if he tried, but he's too scared after I hiss at him and the others defend me.
It has six levels, two of which are platforms with a raised edge. Perfect for napping spots! Then there's my hidey-hole, and the other regular platforms, including the base. The platforms and hidey-hole are carpeted, and the posts are wrapped with sisal. I guess it's nice to scratch on, but I haven't tried it yet. Rori and Dare have demonstrated it, though. None of us have tried out the roof of the hidey-hole, but our purrents are sure that we'll get to that eventually.
The other big news is that I've been letting the humans pet me! Mommy is able to pet my back, flank, and tail with the back of her hand. Daddy is able to pet a whisker and get a nose-touch sometimes. Auntie Shawnee is able to pet my tail, but she accidentally pets my feet. I hate my feet touched! Mommy Lana isn't able to get near me, but I watch her from the floor sometimes when she's got her door open. I do the slow blink at everyone, because I'm pretty content all the time.

Meowy Christmas and Therapy Cat Tales!
Tabby writes:
Meowy Christmas!!!!!!! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've written a therapy cat tale, but we've had a kind of crazy few months here. I went to H. with Mommy and Auntie Shawnee in November for their holiday bazaar, but then didn't have my November visit. I did this month, though!
We ended up making about $30, and half of that we are donating to the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. They got the profits from all our kitty-related notebooks and greeting cards!
On our December visit to H. a couple weeks ago, I wore my Christmas outfit, which you can see in the first picture on this post. I was so excited that Mommy only got one decent pic out of the photo shoot, because I was rolling around and air-kneading!
My friends were all there, and I made some new friends, too. The man who meows at me loved my dress, and one of my new friends had her two daughters there, so they got to meet me, too! Another new friend wanted me to snuggle on the bed with her, so I curled up right in the crook of her arm. I love snuggling with my friends!
No, that's not a real person standing with us under the umbrella. It's the umbrella man statue in Pioneer Courthouse Square! He had an ugly Christmas sweater on this year!

Happy Gotcha Day & Birthday to Missy!

"How I spent my winter vacation"
Hmm...no, that's not right. Let me try again.
"Enjoying Christmas at my forever home"
Yep, sounds about right to me! Yesterday was my gotcha day anniversary! I can't believe it's been four years since Mommy and Daddy made the decision to officially adopt me! It's actually been 4 1/2 years since I came to live here at my forever home, but I wasn't "official" for a few months until Daddy decided he couldn't part wth me. I love my daddy!
I remember when I found my family. It was May, and I was hungry. There were some people who had been feeding me, but they weren't around because it was after their work time. I went looking for someone to help me, but couldn't find anyone. I was worried because it was starting to be evening, and there wasn't much prey in the industrial area I called home. I lived outside, finding what shelter I could. I walked down the sidewalk, calling out for someone, anyone, to come help me.
Mommy was teaching her class, and the whole class stopped to listen to me. They could all hear me from inside the building! Everyone turned to look at Mommy, and she put down the chalk she'd been using. She all but ran out the door to look for me! She found me and picked me up after letting me sniff her hand, then asked a few people if they knew where I belonged. Then she asked someone to go inside the building to get Daddy. He came out, took one look at me, and put me into the car! I knew right then that this was the family for me!
I escaped from the car when my new purrents opened it to go home. I'm very quick! It took them another 45 minutes to re-catch me, because I decided to hide in the lot across the street. They had to earn my trust enough to lure me out the side of the fence and catch me again. I rode by Daddy the whole way home!
It took me a while to trust them completely, and about a year and a half to purr for them, but I'm so glad I chose this family! I love my auntie, uncle, cousins, nieces, and nephews as well. They are my play buddies, entertainment system, and companions. For a kitty who grew up on the streets without siblings, I've come a long way!
The interloper, aka Autumn, has been taking over Daddy a lot lately, though. I think it's fun to play with her tail as she walks by my chair, so she's not all bad. Actually, she's a fun kitten, but she has this annoying habit of tackling when she wants to play. I have to watch when I'm coming out of the bathroom door after using the box, because she likes to try to ambush the rest of us at that corner! I've actually played with her a few times, and even snuggled with Daddy at the same time as she, but not often. I do like watching her from the top of the chair or from the file cabinet!

Mommy Erin, JJ, and Coriel came over last weekend and we had a wrapping paper party! I got all the paper, and there was a lot of it! JJ gave me every piece off his presents, and made a fort around and over me. I played in it for a while, and then walked off with a piece of the paper still attached! I made a big deal of shrugging it off, and everyone laughed. Very fun!
Today's my 6th birthday, too! Does that mean I get more wrapping paper to burrow in? I sure hope so!

Meowy Catmas, a Therapy Cat Tale, and a Sherbet Report
Heimdall writes:
Meowy Catmas, everyfurry! We've been having so much fun over here at the PDX pride! Thank you to all our friends who have sent Catmas cards! Mommy and Daddy read them to us and let us look at the wonderful piccies when we get them! We'll send out cards, too, but it will be a few days before we get them mailed.
I've been taking care of Mommy again. She got sick and had to go to the ER, but she's doing better now. I try to take care of her tummy, but she says purring on it doesn't help it heal. She lets me purr next to her tummy, though, and that helps a lot! It's a furry important job, and that's why I got a special Christmas bandana this year! I paraded all around the living room, showing it off to everyone.
Tabby writes:
I got a new outfit, too! I was so excited to get it; I couldn't even sit still for the picture! It's a black & plaid dress, and it matches Heimdall's bandana perfectly! Mommy and I couldn't go to H. or C. this month because of Mommy's tummy, but we'll be able to go next month, and she says I can wear my new dress on those visits instead of a Christmas visit. That's ok with me, I guess.
I did go on a very important visit at the beginning of this month, though! I went to Mommy's church in Vancouver, WA, to entertain kids whose families participate in the Winter Hospitality Overflow (WHO) shelter program. WHO was putting on a health fair for the participating families, who are homeless and need assistance of various kinds (housing, medical, monetary, nutrition, etc.). The health fair had information on free medical & dental clinics, food assistance, housing assistance, and hands-on stations with basic checkups from nurses, medicine checkups, manicures, massages, and foot-washing. For the kids, they also had gingerbread house decorating, coloring masks, and playing with toys. I was there to entertain the kids and take some stress off the parents, plus promote healthy interactions with animals. I was very important!
Mommy and I took a taxi to the church, because we had to be there pretty early in the morning. The driver was the same one who took us to the pet expo last April! He was glad to see me again, and told us how his kitty was doing. He even let us sit up front and petted me while he was driving! When we got to the church, the lady in charge told us what we would be doing and I got settled in. At first I wondered what I was supposed to do, because it was a totally new environment for me. Where were the people crowding around to see me and pet me? Where were the beds, walkers, laps, and chairs? Why weren't people calling me over? What was I supposed to do in this large, open space, with only two rows of mostly-empty chairs and some long tables scattered about?
It took me a while to realize that I was supposed to just be myself, like I do at home, and not like I do on a regular visit. I was supposed to walk around on my leash, say hi to people, ask them for pets, and hop onto chairs. Those parts of my duties and training didn't change. But on this visit, I could also talk a little (as long as I didn't scream), play with the toys the kids put near me, and investigate things! I'm usually not allowed to do those things on a visit! It was fun; more like playing with JJ than being on a visit!
The kids naturally gravitated toward me. Two kids in particular wanted to be my assistant trainers, because Mommy told the kids I was learning how to interact with people in this new environment. The two boys shared me nicely. The older one pushed me in the stroller around the room and got me used to being there, then gave me a nice chair to curl up in. He sat in another chair next to me, petting me and talking to Mommy about me. A lady with a walker came up, and I immediately switched into my regular visiting mode. She has an emotional assistance cat, but she can't have her with her at the hotel where they were staying. I visited with her, her husband, and their young daughter for a while, then the second boy came to see me. He and his sisters had met me when the first boy had, but his sisters had gotten bitten by a cat in the past so they were leery of petting me or being close to me much. The brother wanted to be sure I wouldn't bite or scratch, but once he was convinced that I would be good, he was my very best friend for the rest of the time we were there!
The boy held onto my leash just like Mommy showed him, and we walked around the whole narthex of the church, investigating all the windowsills. It was so much fun, and everything smelled differently than my windows at home! At one point, I walked under a rolling table and the organizer of the event had to get Mommy's attention to have her "rescue" me. Mommy walked right over and called me to come out, and I came right back out. All I wanted to do was have a nice nap in a quiet space, and that looked about as inviting as anywhere else! Mommy brought my stroller over and I got in, taking about a half-hour nap while she visited with some people who were at one of the tables.
After my nap, the little boy found us again. He wanted to have me help him with his gingerbread house, but I couldn't. I did play trains and cars with him and the girls, though! I think I was a bridge at one point, but I'm not quite sure, because sometimes the cars flew over me and sometimes they went around me. I politely sniffed them, and pushed a couple with my nose, but wasn't really interested in batting at them right then. The boy wanted to push me around in my stroller some more, so he, Mommy, and I walked all around the church and back out into the narthex. Those two rows of chairs were still there! I wanted to get out of the stroller and investigate them, because they intrigued me, so I hopped out and got pets from one of the other volunteers. I then walked over him to the next chair in line. Mommy told my friend that I like to walk from chair to chair, so he very nicely moved all the chairs in the line so they were touching each other, like a huge train! I happily walked about three-quarters of the length, about 10 chairs, then got tired again. Back into my stroller I went, while the little boy and Mommy talked about the functions of my harness and leash, my stroller, and my walking jacket. After seeing me in action and walking around with me for that long, he had a lot of good questions! He wanted to know why I ran out of energy so quickly, where my food and water were, did I sleep in the stroller, and did I have a home. Mommy answered that I ran out of energy faster because I am smaller, my food and water were in bowls in the closet area, I do sleep in the stroller, and I have a home in a house with Mommy, Daddy, and the other kitties.
It was an exhausting day, but very fun! Even the two little girls who were afraid of me were happy to see me and know now that not every cat will attack them. I'm glad I made a difference for all those kids and people!

Hello, everyone. I'm still inside! At the moment, I'm under the bed again, where I've been for most of the time. I come out to eat, drink, and use the box, but the rest of the time I stay hidden. It's a very different life from being outside! A couple weeks ago, Auntie Shawnee came to clean the room I'm hiding in. Boy, was that ever a traumatic day! All those sounds, and wondering what was going on, and then a horrible thing happened! They moved my bed! They actually moved it clear across to the other side of the room! I scooted out of there so quickly I was just a blur, bounced off the wall in the hallway, and ended up on the sink counter in the bathroom! I'm still not quite sure how I got up there!
Panther hit my seat while I was trying to see if the window would open. It wouldn't, so I turned and hissed at my brother. He backed off when everyone told him to, so I hopped down and started for the living room. Panther started chasing me! We ran into the living room at top speed, so I looked around for the highest safe spot. Seeing a bookcase, I climbed it, but it was full of computer parts that crashed down around me! They and I were alright, but what a commotion! Everyone in the household came out to see what in the world was going on, and I got out of there as fast as I could. I ran to the other side of the fireplace and hopped onto the small table next to the end of the couch. There was a nice pillow on it that I used as a bunker, as you can see from the picture! This is where I stayed for the next hour and a half until everyone and everything calmed down. Mommy sat in the chair and worked on a project, Daddy fell asleep in his chair, and the other cats went about their routines. Dare checked on me and Tabby walked over to touch noses, make friends, and lie down almost touching me! Both of them check on me under the bed now, as does Rori. When there are visitors in the house, Rori even comes under the bed to hide with me, and we talk! I'll come out when I'm ready, but it may be a while.

PhotoHunt: Mellow & Tabby's Therapy Cat Tales
Tabby writes:
Wednesday was a very mellow day, because the snow had melted and the weather warmed up. We were supposed to go visiting last week, but it was down to freezing by the time we would've been coming back home. That's too cold for me to be outside! I'm an inside kitty, so I don't have much of a winter coat! My fur gets a little thicker for winter and I shed, but I don't grow the very thick coat like outside kitties do.
It was really raining on Wednesday, so Mommy brought my little umbrella along and I wore my raincoat. I was all nice and warm then! At one point, I wanted to crawl into my carrier bag instead, while we were going from one inside place to another inside place, but Mommy put my jacket on me instead. I had fun watching everything go by then, and didn't worry that I was not in the bag. I had a wet head, but the rest of my fur was dry. My jacket doesn't have a hat or a hood, but it has a collar that I curl in if I need to. Sometimes, I end up wearing the jacket over my head and looking out an armhole!
When we got to the Lloyd Center MAX stop and got off the MAX light rail train, we got a surprise! Some things were lined up along the street, but they didn't look familiar. I know what most cars look like, but these were shorter than cars and they had branches sticking out from the windows! What were those?
Mommy laughed and told me they were cars, too, and they had reindeer antlers! There were three of them lined up, plus some people in blue shirts advertising Car2Go. One of the people was dressed as Santa, but I didn't get my picture taken with him. He didn't want to pose with me. They all wanted to pet me, though, and one of them asked a ton of questions about therapy cats! I love being an ambassador kitty for all therapy cats!
H. had a decorated Christmas tree with lighted packages around the bottom of it, plus poinsettias on all the little tables in the lobby. There were Christmas lights in some places, too. I didn't get my picture taken with any of it, though, because we were running late and didn't want to keep my friends waiting longer than we needed to. I didn't wear my "Santa Baby" dress like I normally do for my December visit, but I had the mini Christmas lights blinking around my stroller handle, so everyone loved those. We visited with a lot of ladies named M. Well, their real names were longer than that, and not all the same name that starts with M., but I can't tell you their real names.
One lady named A.M. loves holding me on her lap and snuggling with me while she talks with Mommy. I watched her tv while she petted me and snuggled with me (and talked). She kept saying she wished that she had a camera to take a picture of me. She didn't have a camera, though, not even a disposable one (which she wants to get). Our friend S., who walks around with us at H., has a cameraphone, so Mommy asked her if she would take a picture of A.M. and me. S. said that of course she would! A.M. almost cried, she was so happy! She said that was the best Christmas present in the world! I posed on the arm of the recliner and we both looked at S. for the picture. It turned out really cute, and I wish I could share it with everyone! A.M. is going to find a nice frame for it and put it on her table! *purrs*
Another of my friends, one of the M.'s, talked about a kitty she had when she was young. Her mom didn't especially like Kate the kitty because Kate was always pregnant or nursing kittens. At that time, they didn't spay or neuter cats. M.'s mom didn't let Kate in the house, but would pour some milk into a bowl and set it out for her and the kittens after she milked. I think that M.'s mom must've liked Kate more than she let on, if she fed her! M.'s mom was Norwegian, so M. knows some Norwegian. She and Mommy had a conversation in Norwegian about Christmas and about how Mommy knew how to speak that language! S. was present and couldn't understand a word of it, but I was listening and could understand a bit. I used to go to classes, and I pay attention when Mommy teaches her internet class. She speaks some of it to us around the house, too. Daddy understands more than he lets on, but only says a few words of it.
My friend who used to be afraid of cats and now loves me was in her room, so we had a nice visit with her. She's another M. She, S., and Mommy had a great conversation about traditional Christmas food and desserts. Mommy was telling about her family and about Great-Grandma coming out west from South Dakota after Great-Grandma married Great-Grandpa. The rest of the family on that side lives in South Dakota still, and my great-uncle sends cookie boxes back to them every year as their Christmas gift.
This picture was taken at C., where we visit after we visit H. I get to share this picture because there's no identifying information in it. I love how their tree looks! You can see the lights on my stroller in this picture, too, as well as my jacket.
The elevator at C. wasn't working properly. One side of it was broken, and it was dinnertime, so everyone was using the other side or the service elevator. We waited and waited for it! Finally it came, then we got to visit P. We had a great visit, then we rode the service elevator back downstairs again. Mommy talked with a couple staff members at C., and we might have more people to visit with next time! There isn't a regular scheduling person for outside visitors, but the different floors have schedules so we'll be on one of those schedules.
After we got done visiting, we went downtown Portland to see the big Christmas tree in Pioneer Courthouse Square. We found a funny thing! This is a bronze statue of a man holding an umbrella, but look what he's wearing! If that's not mellow, we don't know what is!
Are you a photohunter?

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas from all of us at the PDX pride! We hope you are having a lovely Christmas and holiday season with your families. We've got a (fake) tree in the living room, and we haven't even bothered any of the ornaments, except bumping them occasionally with our noses or looking at them. Missy likes sleeping on the packages and found one in a bag that looks like her! We have a Christmas village that lights up, which is on a side table. Little Bit and Scamper each have jumped up on the table once, but got down when Mommy told them to. So, do you think we got presents? Yep! Lots and lots of boxes, ribbon, and paper to play with! We also got food treats!
Tabby had a great Christmas visit last Wednesday to H., where she dressed up in her red felt cape like a Victorian lady. Everyone loved that, and loved that the stroller had Christmas lights wrapped around the handle.
Watson has been missing since Dec. 7th. We hope he comes back! Everyone in the neighborhood has been alerted, posters are up, and Craigslist ads are also up. Mommy and Mommy Erin have been checking shelters and the humane society for him, but no luck yet.

Very Exciting News!!!
Miss Marble writes:
I've decided that I like to be petted! I come up to the glass door and stand up on it, putting both front paws as high as I can reach, asking to be petted. The man or lady come and open the door, then reach down and pet me as I rub against them. I am a bit bitey, but it's just love bites, not hard bites. I've also learned how to lick their fingers to groom them! My sister and daddy can't figure out why I like being petted, so they stay back and watch, but they accept that I like it.
My brother Hemming is doing really well at his new home, the mommy says. He sleeps on his new mommy's face and shoulder at night and is "aggressively affectionate". We're all so glad that his new home is working out that well!
Missy Kitty writes:
Guess what?! This thing called Christmas has boxes! It also has ribbons, which are big strings. But, the most important thing about Christmas is that it means that I'm in my forever home! I got adopted officially by Mommy and Daddy today! And, my third birthday is tomorrow: New Year's Day!

Therapy Cat Tales from 12/28/11
Tabby writes:
Wow, our last visit of this year! Mommy had a nasty sinus infection for most of December, so we didn't go visiting the rest of the month, but she's feeling better now. Since we didn't get to visit before Christmas, I wore my "Santa Baby" dress and had the little Christmas lights blinking on my stroller handle today! Everyone loved all of that, even people on the buses and the MAX light rail train.
It was really cold and rainy, typical December weather for around here, so I wore my raincoat. I'm so glad I have my raincoat, because the wind was so strong it turned the umbrella inside out! Don't worry; Mommy had a coat, too, so we both were nice and dry except our heads. The top of my head got rained on, so I made the coat into a shell, like a turtle, and hid in it from the rain.
On the MAX, a family petted me as soon as they got in, and told us a few stories about trying to harness-train their cat. Their cat was scared of parks! Not me; I love the grass and wide space, and all the smells. On one of our buses, the people a few seats away from us talked about cats the whole ride. It was fun eavesdropping on their conversation.
When we got to H., Mommy took my coat off and I put my "Santa Baby" dress on. I love my dress! It's slinky and form-fitting, so it feels like a light blanket: so cozy! I posed for these two pictures, then hopped down. We went into the office and gave S. and R. the Christmas cards we'd brought for them, then got our list of friends to visit. S. went with us for a few minutes, but then had to go take care of her husband. He was sick today. Some of our friends were sick, too, so our list showed which rooms to not visit because of illness. That way, no one gets sick from petting me when someone else sneezed on me, or anything like that. Plus, if there's anything that I could catch, I don't want to get sick, either. There are some things that humans get that I could get also.
A couple of our friends took pictures of me in my dress, and one family member of a man we visited took a picture of me, too. They all loved the stroller lights, as well! One of our friends, C., who works at H., was telling a couple people about my Facebook page. They thought that was funny but good!
E., who has a kitty neck pillow, loves to see me each time I visit. She talked to me and petted me, fixing my dress so that it was smooth, then showed me her neck cat. I sniffed it politely (it smells of lavender) and purred. G. is a new friend and she has a cat named "Kitty". Kitty has come to visit her at H. a couple times! :) >^..^< G. had a snowman stuffed toy that she wanted me to see, but I wasn't really interested in it. Mommy showed it to me, and I just looked at her, wondering what I was supposed to do with it. Then, Mommy made it touch its nose to mine, so I rubbed my head against it and sniffed it, making friends with it.
The most amazing thing that happened today was visiting a lady who was in a big room with soft music playing. Her daughter and son were there, sitting in chairs. We wondered if they would like to visit, but didn't want to disturb them. They waved us in when they saw me, and told us that the lady didn't have very much longer to live. The daughter said that it seemed like she was waiting for someone or something, then looked at me and asked if maybe she was waiting for me! I looked straight at the lady in the bed and stared, concentrating on her. Mommy felt a wave of peace come over the whole room, like angels were there in the room. The others said it was ok to put me up on the bed to see the lady, so Mommy wheeled me over and told the lady she'd brought a kitty to see her. The lady's breathing changed; she made a sound and held her breath, then breathed normally again. Her right hand moved up and down a little. Mommy lifted me up on the bed, and I gently stood next to the lady, still staring at her. I looked at Mommy, wondering why the lady wasn't responding by petting or talking to me, but then it kind of clicked in my brain that it was like when we waited with my auntie Lydia kitty on her last weekend. This was the same thing, but with humans! I wanted back in the stroller, so Mommy let me jump down. I went over and got pets from the daughter and son, sniffed the son's shoe (he has kitties at home) and jumped up on a spare bed that was in the room. Mommy talked with the others, then brought me over to the other side of the lady's bed one more time before we left the room. I sat right against the lady's leg, and once again she let out her breath then started breathing normally. We thanked the daughter and son for letting us visit, and they thanked us. It meant so much to them to be able to have me visit their mom. The lady will probably not be there for much longer at all, but we're so glad we got to meet her.
A. and G. were coming to watch tv, so we went in with them. I sat between them on the chair arms and got pets from both of them. I was interested in G.'s cookies, but she said they were hers and not for kitties. Darn! She didn't have any fig newtons today, either. Hey, at least I tried! She loved my dress, and said I was dressed up with nowhere to go. When she said that, I got down on the floor and lay down! Well, if I didn't have anywhere to go, I might as well lie down, right? Everyone laughed at that! I played tails with G. She and I love that game, where she tries to touch the tip of my tail and I twitch it for her. It's a game I learned from my uncle Skylar kitty when I was a kitten, and Mommy and Daddy play it with us, too.
H. (a friend, not the place) had family over to visit today. He's a new friend, and they were playing cribbage on his bed. They all love cats, so I hopped onto one of the offered laps and settled in, getting lots of attention. After a couple minutes, I hopped over to the bed and lay down by the cribbage board, letting H. pet me. One of his relatives saw my tail move and mentioned it, so H. tapped my tail. He plays tails, too! We played tails for a few minutes, while everyone looked and smiled. H. tried reading my dress, but he was reading it upside down so it was an incomprehensible jumble of letters. Someone else figured out what he was doing and corrected him, then he read it correctly. They are a Jewish family, but they liked that I was dressed up for the holidays and that the stroller was decorated, too. That's what's good about the holiday season. No matter which holiday you celebrate, you can find joy in other people's celebrations as well.
I visited P. on the other floor. It was definitely a day for playing tails, because she wanted to play tails, too! She's almost blind, so she can only feel where I am and not see me, or at least not see me very well. That means, if I'm walking on the floor and she has her hand over the chair arm, she can pet me but "loses" me when I flop over for tummy rubs. If I'm close to her feet, though, and flop over, she can find me and give me tummy rubs! When she was younger, someone in her family had a cat who took over a baby buggy! The cat slept in it and took rides in it. P. was pleasantly surprised to hear that I have one that I use for the same things! She felt my stroller and got an idea of what it looked like.
After we were done with our visits, we went to Furever Pets. They carry the big bags of Felidae, which is a very yummy food! Mommy says it's good for us, too. I said hi to my friends who work at Furever Pets, and they gave me some treats to eat. I don't like some of the treats, but I did like one kind. They gave Mommy the rest of the package to share later, too! We got our two big bags of food. They even helped wrap the food bags up with a big plastic sheet so that they wouldn't get soaked in the rainstorm! Thanks, friends! It worked really well to have the food bundled up like that on the top of the stroller, and kept it safe and dry all the way home. We were all worried that it might slip off, but it never did!
When we got back home, there was a box waiting for us from Canidae, the pet food company that sponsors us. It was a tin of popcorn for Mommy and Daddy, a Christmas card, and some nice t-shirts and polo shirts for Mommy to wear when we visit! Thanks, Canidae! We love you, too!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to everyone!

Lots of changes and a Christmas tree!
Hemming writes:
Whoa, what is that thing up there? It's got shiny balls on it, pretty ribbons, and lots and lots of branches. It looks like a tree, but what's a tree doing inside? It doesn't smell like my apple tree outside, the one I used to use to trim my claws. In fact, it smells like plastic, not like any tree I've ever smelled. It certainly doesn't smell like the forest I was born in, just a few yards away from the house, where there are trees that look like this one. But if this is a Christmas tree, then I guess that's what it is. My foster uncles and foster aunties all say that it is one, even though Uncle Heimdall and Auntie Freya only saw a little tree last year in this house.
The tree went up a week ago, with all of us investigating and "helping" put the branches into the trunk, then watching in surprise as Foster Mommy put the top on and put a cloth around the bottom of it. Freya and I batted at some of the ornaments and were told "no". Foster Mommy took some pictures of the tree and of us gathered around looking at it (and tasting it, batting at ornaments, etc.), so I'll post those here in a slideshow:
What is this thing called Christmas? Foster Mommy and Foster Daddy say that I'm a Christmas kitten for my new mommy. What's a new mommy? I thought I already had two mommies: my momcat and my foster mommy! I'm going to meet this new mommy and this place called a forever home this afternoon. Everyone's excited for me, and the others are saying this is special, but I'm not sure about it. I think once I'm there, I'll hide like I did at that other place. I'll find a good hiding spot to watch what's going on in this place called a forever home. My foster parents say that's ok to do, and that my new mommy understands. Good!
I wonder if she'll have a Christmas tree? If I'm a Christmas kitten, then don't I belong under the tree as a present? That's what Auntie Tabby says! After our tree here was up, Foster Mommy supervised us for a while then went to sleep. She woke up because she was dreaming about playing ping-pong. Well, guess what the ping-pong ball was? I had an ornament and was playing with it, down the hall, into the bathroom, bouncing it against the tiles! All the ornaments are kitten-safe plastic and cloth, so she laughed as she went to retrieve it, wash it, and put it back on the tree. Soon, I was at it again! A few days later, she found one of the bows in the middle of the hallway. Guess who? Yesterday I tried to climb the tree, but it fell over! I guess it's not for climbing. When Foster Mommy was editing the tree pictures on the computer, I tried to get to the tree! Yep, I'm a tree-obsessed kitten!
I'm also 7 months old today! Wow! I told my sisters that, through the window while they looked at the Christmas tree, and they love that we're all a month older! They don't know what this Christmas thing is either, but as long as it involves food, water, and talking to the inside kitties through the window, it's ok with them!

Tabby's Cyber Monday sale!
Tabby writes:
My new calendar is out! Some pictures are from last year's calendar, but there are some new ones from this year as well. Zazzle, the site we use to sell our calendar, cards, and other products, is having a Cyber Monday sale and will give you the code once you are at their site. You can click on the calendar (above) or the Christmas card (below) to get there. There will be a "Catmas Greetings" stamp available in a day or two that matches the card, plus other winter and holiday products that are available now. Thanks for looking!

Therapy Cat Tales: Tabby's Christmas Eve Visit
Tabby writes:
Whew! I hope you had as great a Christmas as we did! Ours was pawsome! Mommy and I started it off by going visiting to H. on Christmas Eve. I wore my red velvet "Santa Baby" dress over my harness, and got lots of compliments on it when we rode the buses and MAX train. Mommy wrapped the handle of my stroller with tiny Christmas lights that twinkled, too, so I was all festive! She waited until nighttime to take a picture of it, but we had them on the whole time we were visiting.
Not many of my friends who work at H. were there, because they all wanted to be home with their families for Christmas Eve, but we met a new friend named V. who takes great pictures and sells them. She's got kitties at home!
Once we were signed in and had our list, we went up in the elevator with one of the residents and his family. He's one of my visiting buddies, so his family was glad to meet me. As we got out of the elevator, we were surprised by (and surprised) M., who had the same Christmas lights as I did, but hers were around her neck like a long necklace! That gave everyone a laugh! M. told Mommy how much she enjoyed our visits every time we came, and that just made Mommy so happy. G. and a friend tried to feed me oyster crackers, but I don't take treats when I'm out. I sniffed the crackers politely, then asked for pets.
Many of the residents had beaded snowflakes on their walkers or wheelchairs. I think they'd made them earlier in the week. They were sooo pretty! Some of the people had presents to open later on, and/or had Christmas cards that they showed to us. Everyone loved my pretty red dress! I walked around proudly, then lay regally in my stroller to ride. Just before we left, Mommy had someone take our picture by the Christmas tree!
We took the bus back part of the way, then Mommy's dad came and picked us up. I stayed at home while Mommy went to her grandparents' to celebrate Christmas Eve with them, her uncle, and her dad. Daddy had to work, but we had our Christmas on Christmas Day with him.

Our Wonderpurr Holidays!!!
We had a great week of Christmas parties and get-togethers!!! First, Tabby and Mommy visited H. on Christmas Eve, then Mommy went over to be with her dad, uncle, and grandparents for the rest of the evening. On Christmas Day, Mommy's mom came over to exchange presents, and we got a LOT of boxes and wrapping paper to play in/bite/hide/pounce in!
In the afternoon on Christmas Day, Erin came over to spend the rest of the day and the night with us. She was a bit sad, so we did our best to cheer her up. We think it worked, too! How could she not be cheered up watching us play and petting us? Our purrents and Erin had yummy leftovers from Christmas Eve for dinner (meatballs, gravy, and mashed potatoes) and we got the plates afterwards. Carbon does love his mashed potatoes and gravy treat!!!
When it was bedtime for JJ, he took a bath with his new green bath salts. Freya, who loves jumping in the bathtub when the water's running for showers, wasn't sure exactly what JJ was doing, but wanted very much to investigate it. So she jumped on the side of the tub and looked in! Nope, she didn't slip in.

What is it??? What's it doing???
Then, on Monday, Daddy went over and got Erin and JJ so we could have Christmas and open gifts with them. They spent the night, then went back the next day.

Tabby in her "Santa Baby" dress by our small tree.
No eating the cord for the lights, Freya! (The reason we didn't get a full-sized tree this year; Daddy says next year.)
Merry Christmas! Winter blessings!
