Sunday Surprises!

First of all, hi from my second-favorite spot in the whole house!  This shelf is the one I used to like when it was in my room, but now it's in the dining room.  I still love it, and will go out to it to sleep sometimes.

Mama Shawnee likes to take pictures of me.  She took the one of my shelf and also this one, of me spying on her.  She wasn't supposed to see me from her bed, but she did!

Just in the last few weeks, I've started hanging out on Mommy's desk while she's sleeping.  Once again, Mama Shawnee caught me in the act of being cute!  Mommy woke up to Mama Shawnee talking to me and the camera flash at 2 a.m.!

But, that's not the latest of the surprises.  We have two visitors from another kitty family!  We're kitten-sitting for a couple weeks.  Until now, I didn't know what kittens looked like or sounded like, since I haven't been around any since I was one.  I was quite confused when they appeared.  What were they?  Why did they move so fast?  Was it ok that they were wrestling?  Was it ok that they were eating my food, drinking my water, using my box, and climbing my kitty tree to check out my "house" cubby there?  Mooooooooommies!!!  Daaaaaaaddy!!!  They've been here three days now, and we're all getting used to them (and they to us).  I actually like them, and will go find them if I haven't seen them for a while!  They like me, too.

Bunny (on the left) is fun to watch zoom around.  Well, they're both fun to watch, but he runs with a lope!  He likes to play with Auntie Dare (on the right), who now thinks the kittens are fun to torment (in a good way).

Prince Eric is very fast, and he loves my kitty tree!  I'll even let him sniff me sometimes, if he doesn't try to jump past my house (on the next shelf down) to get to his favorite place.

Their people need to move from the apartment where they've been to a new one, because of poor management and very poor maintenance.  While the family's moving, they've asked that the kittens stay with us.  Once the humans get settled, the kittens will go back to them at their new home.  If you could help Prince Eric and Bunny's people with some green papers, their GoFundMe is here.  It's set up and monitored by them, not us.  Please, no rude comments.  Everyone's trying to help them and the others at those apartments.  Thank you.

Snow Day and a Fundraiser Announcement

Yesterday, we all woke up to snow!  The first snowfall of the winter!  I was very glad to be inside the warm (and dry) house, but was as hyper as everyone else.  We ran up and down the hallway playing THOE (thundering herd of elephants), woke Mommy up by jumping on the bed, and chittered at the leaves the wind was blowing around in the yard.

After Mommy was fully awake, I let her know I wanted to go out to play in the snow.  I was out for a good two hours before I wanted back in!  I pounced on half-buried leaves, played in the crisp, frozen grass, and made pawprints on the deck.  I hunted for a while, but everything was staying in dens and not out to be hunted.  After it started warming up so the snow was starting to melt, I asked to be let back inside again.

Panther was so jealous!  He wanted out to play in the snow, too, but Mommy wouldn't let him.  He sniffed me all over when I came back in and told me how jealous he was!

Some of you kitties who are world travelers might know that there are two cities called Vancouver on the west coast of North America.  We live in the south Vancouver, which is Vancouver, Washington, USA.  The other Vancouver is Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and it's only about 8 hours away, almost directly north of us.  They are having the same cold weather and starting to have snow.  The kitties up there could really use some help right now, so we'd like to tell you about a fundraiser to help them.

Amy Lowry, a Vancouver, BC, graphics designer, is donating $1 for each item purchased in her Etsy store to the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association.  VOKRA is a unique no-kill, cats-only rescue that is based around foster homes rather than a brick-and-mortar shelter building.  It was started 13 years ago and, according to the website, helped find homes for almost 2,000 cats last year!  VOKRA also has a T-N-R program.  If you would like more information about VOKRA, their website is here.  If you would like more information about the fundraiser, including some stores that carry Amy Lowry's products, her infographic is here.  Thank you!

Doggie Dash 2013: Tabby's Fundraising Challenge

Tabby is asking all her friends to purrrlease support her and the PDX pride mommy as they walk the Oregon Humane Society's Doggie Dash on May 11th.  She is challenging her fellow pet-bloggers, and the winner gets a free copy of her e-book for children!

There are two ways to win:

1.  Donate on our personal fundraising page below and leave a comment here afterward saying you donated (with the name used on the donation) so we can match it up.

OR

2.  Donate as above and leave a comment, then get your friends to do the same and comment, noting who sent them in their comment.

So, if Carbon donates x amount and that amount is the highest donated, he would get the prize.  If Starla donates y amount and gets five friends to donate z each and they all comment on this page that Starla sent them, she would get the prize even though she personally donated less than Carbon. If one of Starla's friends donates, gets others to donate, and those others credit the friend in their comments, the friend would win the prize if the amount adds up to the highest amount.

Go Team Tabby!!!

Yep, I've got my fundraising shirt on again, and you know what that means: it's time for the annual Cat Adoption Team Care-A-Thon!

We support the Cat Adoption Team because it does such great work with the homeless kitties in our area. CAT helps stray cats and kittens get the medical care they need, then find their original owners or get adopted into new, loving homes. They also train foster families, educate the community, and provide a cat food bank.

CAT's 12th anniversary is this spring. We are challenging our supporters to donate in increments of $12 and challenge 12 (or more) friends to do the same.

$12 will pay to test one cat for feline leukemia and feline aids

$24 will help stock a “kitten baby bag” for a foster family

$48 will neuter five male cats through the subsidized program for families in financial need

$120 will vaccinate and spay two female cats to keep them healthy and prevent the birth of unwanted kittens

If you can donate even $1 it helps so much! Last year, thanks in large part to the cats and humans of the CB, we raised $97 for the CAT! Let's see if we can beat that this year! Fundraising Update

I was busy with everything else last week and didn't post a fundraising update, but..............

We are over halfway to our goal!!!!!

Thanks to the Creek Cats and to Gypsy & Tasha, we now have raised $66 for Cat Adoption Team! Way to go, Team Tabby! You rock!!!

If you still want to donate, the challenge goes until the end of May. All the money raised goes to medical and housing services for strays and ferals at the CAT shelter, and to providing foster care for the baby kittens and the adult cats who need more socialization. Fundraising Update

We've raised $30 so far for the Cat Adoption Team. Some of it doesn't show up on the widget in the sidebar because it was given by Mommy's mom as a check to them. So far, all the teams together have raised $1,049. There's still a month and a half to go for this! If you can donate, or want to know more about the Cat Adoption Team, you can click on the widget in our sidebar. Even $11 will help, because that amount pays for FELV/FIV testing for one cat. $22 pays for a "kitten fostering bag" to be sent along with babies who need socializing.

Thank you to Parker for donating to the Cat Adoption Team! Whoo-hoo, now there's $22 dollars raised, and Mommy heard that two of her friends around home are going to send in checks as well, so it's really even more than that. :) :) :)

Fundraising Update

Phooey! There have been no new donations for Team Tabby this week! Even if you can't donate a lot, every penny goes to a good cause: The Cat Adoption Team. They provide medical care to strays and abandoned cats, ferals too! They also find foster homes for the adoptable ones, outside homes for the ones too wild to be pets, and then forever homes for those who are ready for a human family.

If you can donate $11, that is all it takes for them to test one cat for FELV/FIV.
If you can donate $22, that pays for a "baby bag" for a kitten to take to its foster home.

It's that time of year again! "Team Tabby" is once again raising money to support Cat Adoption Team (CAT). This year, instead of joining in the "Pets in the Pearl" fundraiser, they have their own: a Care-A-Thon. It's their 11th year as an organization, so we're challenging cats (and dogs) and their people to donate in 11s. Can you donate:

$11 will pay to test one cat for feline leukemia and feline aids

$55 will neuter five male cats through our subsidized program for families in financial need
$110 will vaccinate and spay two female cats to keep them healthy and prevent the birth of unwanted kittens
