We've had a lot going on this week here at the PDX pride!!! Socializing, a vet visit, hunting monsters, being afraid of Mommy's witch hat (for a Halloween party at her work), and hanging out with Daddy. We'll let each other tell the highlights of the week.
Tigress writes:
I love my house and my inside family! It's so nice being inside when it's wet outside, especially when it's cold. Even when it's dry outside, I realize now that my inside family wants me to come inside to visit them at night. I've been spending almost a third of the time in with them, especially at night, but they let me out when I want. I even hopped up on the bed when Mommy was sleeping to let her know I wanted out one time, and another time I walked all the way to Daddy's chair when the TV was on to let him know I wanted out! I realize that TV isn't as scary as I originally thought, but I still don't like it. Panther and I have been getting along well. I am worried about his eyes and ears, so I make sure to check on him every time I come in. I'll let him tell how he's doing, though.
Panther writes:
I had to go to the vet again! Foster Mommy and Grandpa took me this time, because Foster Daddy started a new job and was very tired after a week of training. That's fine, because I like Grandpa. I knew what the vet was going to check, and growled at the nurse when she took out the thermometer. They were very nice to me, though. I got some new medicine that's really helping me! It's a liquid medicine, so no more drops in my eyes. The vet said my eye infection turned into an upper-respiratory infection.
The medicine is helping me so much that I now feel like playing again! This morning, I was running around trying to get my aunties and uncles to play with me, but they kept on growling and hissing. That made me nervous, so I attacked them! Mommy and Daddy yelled at me for it and stomped their feet or clapped to break up the fights. Not fun, and certainly not playing! I don't even know why I keep on getting into fights. I don't want to! Somehow, I manage to start fights, though. I try to make up for it afterward by trying to apologize to whoever I attacked, but they don't want to accept my apologies until a few hours later. Why not? Inside kitty rules are very confusing!
Little Bit writes:
I tackled a monster, but it won! No, I'm not talking about Panther, although I did fight with him and won. I'm talking about the air monster that lives underneath the house. It blows my fur around when I stand over the vent, and is nice and warm right now, but it makes a horrible sound when it starts up. Since it's started to be a little colder here, the air monster has been making sounds more often. I decided a few nights ago to fight it. Big mistake! It was in the middle of the night, so the house was mostly quiet, meaning I could hear the air monster start up. I went over to its escape route and attacked! I pulled its door open, but the door itself made such a horrible noise that I ran away! It clanged and banged, squeaking as it came up, then banged down to the floor when I ran! Mommy woke up and put the door back on the vent, because she didn't want anyone exploring the monster's lair. She calls it ductwork.
Tabby writes:
I put myself to bed last night! We were all out together for a long time, because Carbon, Starla, and I have been getting along better again. I start getting sleepy around midnight, so I curled up with Daddy for a bit, then told him I wanted to be carried into the green room for night-night time. He said I could go to bed myself. I walked over to Mommy, got my good-night petting, then walked down the hall. I hopped up onto the tote I've chosen as my bed, then yelled down the hall for Mommy to come in to tuck me in! She came in, petted me again, kissed the top of my head, turned out the light and shut the door. ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Later on, she let Carbon in to join me when it was night-night time for him.

Ahoy! It be Meow like a Pirate Day!
Tabby writes:
Ahoy there, Mateys! It be Meow like a Pirate Day for all this fine day! We be sailin' for calm seas, as it be too rainy here for the likes of me and the rest of the crew. Cap'n Rori threw Carbon in the brig this mornin' for tussling with Starla in the bedroom doorway while switchin' rooms. I barreled in to try an' stop the fight, but became part of it, so I got myself outta there an' remained on the edge offerin' comments. Cap'n Rori stood alongside me an' bopped Carbon on the head each time she saw him. Mommy clapped, an' Daddy barged in an' grabbed Carbon by his scruff. Mommy got Starla from under the dresser and then the switching of the rooms was completed without further nonsense from any of the crew. Starla is now in the crow's nest on the kitchen counter, while Carbon will be confined to the brig in the bedroom until sunup.

Purrsonality Change?
Ok, kitties of the blogosphere, we need your opinions on this. Please. Our former alpha cat, Lydia, died last October, and since then Rori took over as alpha cat. No problems there; she's an awesome alpha cat and looks out for everyone, taking care of everyone and making sure they're ok.
Now, tonight we had the second rolling cat fight with a "visitor". Outdoor Fluffy Buddy came in, thinking maybe Starla was inside. Once he realized she wasn't in, he was fine exploring the food bowl and exchanging sniffs with Tabby and Smokey. I didn't shut the door because I didn't want him to feel trapped. He's one of the ferals, and this is his first time in a house since he was a kitten (when he was abused or abandoned).
He decided to walk into the living room from the kitchen, and Rori followed him. He went into the hallway, and looked like he was going to check out the litterbox (headed into the bathroom, where we keep it). That's when Rori attacked. Hissing, screaming, rolling cat fight. Fluffy Buddy escaped out the door, and then it was Rori, Tabby, and Carbon rolling around fighting. Rori and Tabby almost made it out the door, but I closed it just in time!
Ever since Rori's spay mid-January, she's been growling at outside sounds, and even sometimes at my husband. It's like her personality was swapped with another kitty's! And, yes, we're sure it's really her.
Any suggestions? Any ideas why this is happening or what we can do about it?
Thanks in advance!

Cat fight!
Rori, alpha kitty of the house, writes:
The giant kitty SpongeBob came in this evening, and I went ballistic! I did NOT want him in MY HOUSE! I puffed up, hissed, and slunk all over. He played for a while, then went around saying hi to everyone. When he came toward me, I hid under the couch. He saw me, and walked over by me to say hi. I hissed, so he walked away. I followed him, slinking behind him, with Tabby following me. SpongeBob walked into the office room, with us following right behind him, then tried to turn around. I was all puffy still, and I lashed out at him. He swiped back and hissed, then I lit into him. When Mommy clapped, he ran away but I turned on Tabby and she and I rolled in a furry, hissing fight into the living room. SpongeBob by this time had run up to the window escaping me, then over by the door. Skylar got scared because SpongeBob ran right by him, and Daddy got scratched on the arm. Mommy and Daddy clapped a lot to try to separate me from Tabby, and we separated after a few tries (the first few times we separated, I attacked her right off again). Then I ran by Smokey and swiped at her, while Tabby hissed and growled. Smokey went into fight mode and lashed out, then ran onto the top of the dishwasher.
Mommy let SpongeBob out the door, then put me into the bedroom. Then she cleaned up in the office, because SpongeBob peed in there when I attacked him. He didn't spray; it was obviously because he was scared, not because of territory. He was just so scared he wet.
Everyone's ok physically, just very scaredy at the moment. Mommy let me out, and I slunk around for a bit, but now I'm almost walking again. Everyone's investigated the spot in the office. Carbon came out from under the bed, and Skylar hopped back up with Daddy. I haven't yet apologized to the others, so they are still avoiding me, and Smokey tried to swipe at me. Tabby wanted to sniff me, and I turned like I was going to smack her again, but I didn't.
Update: I went up to Mommy and apologized. Then I went over to Smokey and apologized to her by sniffing her tail. Then I made the rounds to the others and sniffed them too, apologizing to them.
